A new Construction Skills Fund has been established to support the development of on-site training hubs for the construction industry.
An on-site training hub is a physical facility which enables potential entrants to become site- and employment-ready. The hub would ideally be located within a large housing development or infrastructure project. The hubs will help train long-term unemployed people and those who are looking to make a career change into the construction industry.
The fund is open to bids for funding for collaborative projects. Eligible organisations include: employers with large infrastructure or housing projects; local authorities; LEPs; housing associations; colleges; and private training companies.
CITB has £20.8m available to fund at least 20 on-site training hubs. The funding can be used to support the establishment of the hub’s training facilities, a skills coordinator for each project, and the cost of training delivery and qualifications not currently supported by public funding.
There is a conference about the fund at the Buckerell Lodge Hotel in Exeter on 26 June 2018.
Eligible applicants who submit an expression of interest which is approved will then have eight weeks to submit a full application.
