China has achieved rapid development in airport construction in recent years. It is estimated that China will spend £1.6 trillion on airport development in the next 15 years. There are plans for 250 new/expanded/relocated airports and up to 2000 additional general aviation airports. This represents over 50% of total global airport construction over the period. However, this fast development also poses various challenges/weaknesses to the operation and management of the airports. Therefore, China is keen to shift the development from quantity to quality, efficiency and has initiated a new strategy focusing on “Safe, Green, Smart, Humanity” airport development.
