How could you benefit from having a free business consultancy project undertaken by Plymouth Business School students?

The University of Plymouth are currently looking for businesses/organisations to provide simple, consultancy projects for Plymouth Business School students to undertake as part of their assessed modules. These business consultancy projects are a great way for businesses to develop an area or project that they would not usually have time for. Some examples of previous projects are:

  • researching funding options
  • undertaking an online competitor analysis
  • looking at elements of a marketing strategy
  • creating a social media strategy
  • undertaking online customer or supplier research
  • undertaking a website review

Students may be at the beginning of their academic journeys so suitable projects need to be low risk, not urgent and not business critical. Whilst most projects are beneficial for the clients, unfortunately, we cannot guarantee results. The most successful projects often involve some sort of secondary research that the students can conduct remotely on your behalf, either over the internet or from library sources and include an analysis of their findings. Students would not be expected to make applications for funding or to implement strategies. They are not permitted to work from your premises and cannot be expected to make calls to competitors or suppliers. To gain further insight, students may visit your business premises (if you have premises) if it is easily accessible by public transport within an hour of Plymouth city centre.

Students usually work in groups of approximately 5, over a number of weeks. Most projects start in February 2019 but there are currently 2 different options available which have slightly different timescales, deliverables and require different levels of commitment from you. Students meet with you at the beginning of the project to clarify your objectives, gather any further information and ask you questions. During the course of the project, students contact you by email or phone. Depending on which cohort of students work on your project, you may receive a presentation or a report or both at the end of the project. Full details are on the attached application form.
