Neptunes Eco WatercraftSouth Devon-based Neptune’s Eco Watercraft, owned and run by Michael and Julia King opened its doors in 2021. As a new business, they already faced lots of challenges, having been impacted, not only by the Coronavirus pandemic, by also the Suez Canal blockage and other delays caused by Brexit. Once they discovered the Growth Hub, they were able to receive assistance in key areas to help drive their business forward during a turbulent time.

Neptune’s Eco Watercraft is a sales/rental and servicing business based in Kingsbridge in South Devon.  The Company has been set up by Michael and Julia King.

Neptune’s Eco Watercraft hire out a range of state of the art, new to market, fun and eco-friendly vessels, including Chili Boats, which offer an immersive gliding experience across water, Manta 5, which are battery assisted hydro cycles, and an Aqua Skipper, which is a pogo stick on water.

When asked about how things have been since starting his business, Michael said, “We only started trading fairly recently, so the Coronavirus pandemic didn’t really have a huge impact on our business, however delays in receiving orders from overseas have caused us some real issues.  The much-reported blockage in the Suez Canal when the huge container ship ran aground, back in March, has been the source of much worry and frustration for us and caused our own equipment to be delayed by 3 months.  Brexit has also had an impact for us causing our Manta 5s to be stuck in the Netherlands for nearly 6 weeks and we are still awaiting our Chili Boat order which is already delayed by a number of weeks.”

Julia added, “We were very fortunate that we heard about the Heart of the South West Growth Hub from a lady called Lindsay, who works for South Hams District Council. We were a brand new business and we were looking for advice about funding and other issues, so got in touch.”

Michael and Julia are really grateful for the help they received from the Growth Hub.  They said that their advisors have been really supportive to them as a new business, particularly with Marketing and giving direct access to people who can advise them on various other matters. Michael said, “Without their help, things would have undoubtedly been more difficult, and knowing that there was someone out there offering friendly advice has helped. Their advice and useful contacts have certainly helped us to find ways of telling people about our business with clever marketing advice, which in the long term will increase our future trade and help to safeguard our business.”
