Lisa formed The Oak Practice in 2013, initially to provide Dramatherapy services to clients in the education and healthcare sectors across Devon.

In 2017, looking to build upon the services offered at The Oak Practice, Lisa was successfully accepted onto the Lloyds Bank Social Entrepreneurs Programme delivered in Plymouth by Dartington School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) which provides beneficiaries with access to advisory support and a £3000 grant.

Lisa utilised her time working with Dartington SSE to develop her new Talking Heads service which provides supervision for senior professionals working with children in the education sector, offering a 1 to 1 confidential environment in which to systematically explore and work through challenging issues they are facing within the scope of their job role. She has also moved the business into new premises and launched a new website.

Having completed her time with Dartington SSE and having just launched the Talking Heads service in October 2018, Lisa was introduced to the services on offer through the Heart of the South West Growth Hub through business adviser Vince McConville. Vince has been working with the Growth Hub since the service launched and is one of the expert network of business advisers delivering one to one advisory sessions to local businesses as part of the Growth Hub’s service.

Lisa was looking for support to optimise the effectiveness of the new website and to improve digital marketing techniques to increase uptake for the new Talking Heads service.

Lisa said “My 1 to 1 session with Vince was most helpful. I found his approach practical and pragmatic. Running a busy business and launching a new service has kept me extremely busy and finding the time to devote to improving my visibility and engagement on platforms such as Linked In or Twitter is hard work.

However, Vince is a great listener and explained how these things actually fit with the bigger picture for the business and my growth goals. I felt like Vince was supportive of what I am trying to achieve with my business and believes in what I do.

“Vince has continued to be supportive of the business after our initial meeting, engaging with my social media posts, which is very encouraging when you are taking your first steps.

The support I have received has really helped me to look professional in the wider market place and develop a much bigger presence than I would have been able to without it”.

“I think the services offered by the Growth Hub are really brilliant and I would definitely recommend it to local businesses.”
