Accutest International Limited
Steady growth for hybrid survey business following Growth Hub StartUp support
Somerset-based, Accutest International Limited (Accutest) is set for steady growth over the next six months following 1-to-1 support from one of the Heart of the South West Growth Hub’s network of specialist Business Advisers, Nevelle Marchent.
Founded by owner, Tom Werner, Accutest is a newly established company offering Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) expertise. With considerable experience within the industry, Tom saw an opportunity to combine three business functions; NDT, Environmental Testing and UAV-Drone services, in order to offer a comprehensive approach to thermographic surveys and traditional NDT inspections. Tom talks about his business growth plans and the level of that support he was looking for:
“Having focussed on the initial set-up of Accutest which included achieving accreditation and CAA approval to professionally fly drones, we now have the skilled labour resource onboard to fully deliver NDT via drone and we are in a position to realise our full growth potential.
The major benefits of incorporating drone usage into the NDT process is improved accessibility during a survey and completely reducing the health and safety risk of falls from scaffolding, ladders and lifting equipment. Together, this creates better cost efficiency for the Customer.”
Tom was referred into the Heart of the South West Growth Support Service – a tailored programme of support where eligible businesses can access fully-funded advice and discuss their options with a Business Adviser. Following the 1-to-1 session, business owner and business adviser work together to create a support plan which details practical steps to work towards business growth.
Tom and Nevelle discussed ways to access new markets and Customers across the UK, considering budgets, cash-flow, investment, equipment and promotional activity.
Nevelle worked with Tom to create a realistic budget and cash-flow forecast which considers profitability limits and where future investment within the business may be required.
This financial planning support has helped Tom to pinpoint the type of Customer and level of contract that he requires to see his start-up, take-off.
As with most StartUp ventures, time resources are limited for Tom so he requires promotional activity that reaps a maximum return on his investment. Nevelle and Tom discussed appropriate marketing options that could benefit his business model.
Support from the Growth Hub doesn’t end here, following Tom and Neville’s session, Tom has been signposted to the most relevant form of fully funded support available for his needs; HM Government StartUp Resources for Business, the Business is GREAT programme and the Access to Finance service – further information on these services for StartUps is available through the Heart of the South West Growth Hub website.
Tom reflects on the support that he has received:
“Nevelle is easy to get along with and very experienced with good suggestions. In the absence of Growth Hub support I would have been somewhat unlikely to have undertaken the same activities. I am satisfied with the support I have received through the Growth Support Service and look forward to my StartUp venture becoming a ScaleUp soon.
