“NO CATCH 22” SAYS MD ON HIS EXPERIENCE OF RECEIVING FUNDED BUSINESS SUPPORT
An Exeter based company supplying the MOD, police and education sectors has realigned its business focus on the back of funded business advice offered through the Heart of the South West Growth Hub.
Mapyx Limited, a Geographic Information Solutions (GIS) provider delivers tracking solutions throughout the UK for the public and private sector. The company is now the sole GIS provider for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and regularly coordinate with mission control during search and rescue operations.
Having relocated the company to Devon in early 2017, Managing Director, Steve Wood remains optimistic about the potential that the local business landscape promises. Steve said, “Working in an innovation centre allows our company to regularly engage with like-minded, forward-thinking businesses. There is a culture of communication within the centre which enabled us to find out about available funded support opportunities, like the Growth Hub.”
After receiving advice and an initial business diagnostic from the Growth Hub, the company was referred and introduced to Zenen Business & Education Services as part of a wholly funded, intensive business support package offered to eligible companies within Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay.
“Our focus has been on research and development since 2009 and we have made significant headway with regards to the technology that we offer our Clients. This focus on development means that we are confident in our product and we are keen to find new ways to bring it to market. We know our business well but the advice we have received has identified areas of the business that would be beneficial to explore further as well as develop a meaningful strategy to reach a wider target audience.”
Steve and his team have realigned their business model so that focus on R&D, networking and marketing activity now bear an equal weighting. On his experience of using the Growth Hub, Steve said: “I was sceptical about receiving ‘free’ advice and wondered if this was a catch 22 situation. However, I quickly found Laura from the Growth Hub to be professional, available and personable. I cannot fault the quality of service and I have been impressed throughout. This is a purely value-added service at a highly professional level.”
