The winners of the 2022 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise have been announced, celebrating the achievements of UK businesses. This year, 232 businesses representing every part of the United Kingdom and a range of sectors have been recognised by Her Majesty The Queen on her birthday as among the best in the country.

Winners based within the Heart of the South West include:

Heathcoat Fabrics Limited based in Tiverton, Devon, make a wide range of fabrics for use in textile and industrial applications. Their expertise came to the attention of the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab team who asked the company to develop suitable materials for parachutes to be used in the landing of the Perseverance Rover on Mars.

Artemis Optical Ltd based in Plympton, Devon, is a world renowned company in the design and application of high precision, technically differentiated, optical thin film coatings for the photonics industry.

Investment Casting Systems Limited based in Paignton, Devon, is a high-tech manufacturing SME that specialises in large steel and aluminium mould tools for composite component manufacture and ceramic core dies for the investment casting houses within the aerospace, defence and commercial sectors.

Spirent Communications (Positioning technology division) based in Paignton, Devon, develops and manufactures the world’s leading test solutions for PNT (Positioning, Navigation and Timing) solutions. The core of its business is the simulation of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) signals for use in laboratories in the development of PNT applications.

Service Design Solution Ltd based in Plymouth provides consulting engineering focused on sustainable construction, supporting the delivery of zero-carbon developments. They design innovative, energy-efficient functional engineering systems for hospitals, schools, universities, public buildings, commercial and industrial developments.
