Go Green Scheme for Somerset businesses

Funding and practical advice is available now to help Somerset businesses to reduce emissions and energy consumption

Somerset Council is helping businesses to reduce their carbon emissions and save money on their energy costs by rolling out the next phase of a twin grants and support scheme.

The Go Green Scheme offers small businesses practical advice and support to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, whilst the Somerset Green Business Grant offers between £2,000 and £15,000 that require equal match funding from participants. The schemes are funded from the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Local Growth Fund.

The Somerset Green Business Grant offers small and medium size businesses (SMEs) practical help and financial support to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. Some £170,000 is being allocated to the scheme with grants of between £2,000 and £15,000 being made available. Equal match-funding will be needed from applicants. There will be a 2-stage application process – an expression of interest to confirm eligibility followed by, for those that meet the fund criteria, a full application. For details on the scheme and how to apply please contact: greenbusinesssupport@somerset.gov.uk.

The Council is working with Net Zero specialist consultancy Balanced Energy to bolster the grants with practical advice and support under the Go Green scheme, including:

  • A fully funded, in-person energy audit
  • A tailored sustainability plan
  • New coverage of fleet and business travel emissions
  • A clear, professional report they can use to show they’re on the journey to Net Zero
