Accessibility statement for the Growth Hub website

This website is run by the Heart of the South West Growth Hub. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser settings
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen using browser settings
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

If you would like information on our website translated into another language, you may find the service listed below meets your needs. However, we cannot guarantee the accuracy of any external website or free website translators.

Under some circumstances, for example, if you cannot read the information easily in English, you can request information in a different language from us. This includes British Sign Language, easy read or a foreign language. Please contact our customer service centre for advice.

How accessible is this website?

This website has been developed to be as accessible as possible. However, we know some parts of this website aren’t fully accessible:

  • Some older PDF documents aren’t fully accessible to screen reader software
  • Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information
  • Captions on some videos are auto-generated by YouTube and may not be completely accurate
  • Some content does not have enough contrast, so people with moderate visual impairments may struggle to read it
  • Some controls on pages – this may include links, buttons, and fields – do not show when they have been selected by the keyboard
  • Our online forms could be difficult to navigate using just a keyboard
  • Some links are not distinct enough and may be difficult for people with moderate visual impairments to read
  • Content may be difficult to navigate using a screen reader

What to do if you can’t access parts of this website

If you need information on this website in a different format like accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio recording or braille, please contact us using the contact details at the end of this statement.

We’ll consider your request and get back to you as soon as possible.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Devon County Council is committed to making its website accessible, under the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • A few PDF documents published since September 2018 aren’t fully accessible to screen reader software. These are being reviewed and will be accessible by September 2020. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
  • Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. We plan to add text alternatives for all images by September 2020. When we publish new content, we will make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.
  • One page still requires 2D zooming to access all the information. We plan to resolve this soon.
  • On our home page, users are not yet able to skip to the main content of the page.
  • Some control features on the pages do not currently change in appearance when selected. We plan to resolve this soon.
  • Pinch to zoom is not currently enabled.
  • Our webpage features several web forms and the form controls currently do not have any screen reader labels

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents
Our website currently hosts several PDFs that pre-date the 23 September 2018 and will therefore not be accessible to some screen reading software. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

External links
This website may link to third-party, external websites or services that are not fully accessible.
